Lylus V Concept Art 3- Sailear case study

This is the humble sailear, the last remaining mammalian species living on Lylus V. About 70% of all macroscopic fauna living on Lylus V are arthropods, roughly 20% being cephalopods, and 9% being air-borne medusa (a type of creature which has trailing tentacles, bluebottles and box jellyfish are examples)

The reason why sailears have been able to adapt is because they already had good traits in their favour. As the rest of the mammalian species died out around them as the planet dried, sailears began to look like the gruesome invertebrates around them. For example, their hair evolved into prickly spines as defence against the other animal classes which had now exploited the new world's habitats and had grown massive.

If you can't really picture a sailear in real life, think of it as a cross between a fennec fox (large ears), praying mantis (large, spiked forearms) porcupine (quills) kangaroo (large feet for hopping around) and an anteater (long tongues.)
